If you would like that special picture for yourself, or for a gift, then perhaps consider having it painted in pastel pencils, or drawn with coloured pencils or given depth of tone with graphite drawing pencil.

My work can be from photographs or real life depending on the subject. I have a few pictures displayed of previous work.

WORKSHOP WITH GRADED DRAWING PENCILS

Pencil drawing is an enjoyable and relaxing medium, but there are several techniques involved in producing a piece of work.

Pencils come in many grades, and it is useful to understand how these different grades work and when to use them, so this workshop is an opportunity to gain that skill and progress to some serious drawing. The theme of the workshops will be 'Drawing from Nature' to include botanical, birds and wildlife.

Observation of the subject is an important starting point and this is how the course will start, to introduce or reinforce the elements of observing the chosen subject onto paper. Students will be able to see the range of pencils and papers available to use for this medium, as well as trying out the various options. Work will be mainly done on a smooth paper, such as bristol board, but many other types of paper can be used, including hand made paper.

Day workshops cost £40.00 per person and run at the following venues:

Students are asked to bring at least a B, 2B, 4B pencils and smooth paper.

COLOURED PENCILS WORKSHOP

Coloured pencils are a versatile material as they can be easily used both indoors and out, so an ideal sketching tool. There are several techniques in building up colour to correspond with the subject matter, and it is useful to have a knowledge of types of pencil and the paper to work on.

Starting at basics with drawing observation the work progresses into colour, learning how to approach the subject and get it onto paper. Observational skills are important in all drawing and whether your subject is botanical, a natural form or animals, this will shape how the whole of your project continues. Students will look at colour matching and how to layer to achieve the build up on paper, this will give a good reference guide for future work. The workshop theme is 'Drawing from Nature' and includes botanical drawing, animals, plants and natural forms.

The day workshops cost £40.00 per person.

Students will need to bring coloured pencils and a smooth paper.

FINDING PASTELS MESSY?

Why not try Pastel Pencils for yourself by coming on a day workshop, not only are they less messy, but you can achieve fine detail. Pastel pencils are easy to use and come in a comprehensive range of colours. These courses are designed for the beginner or for perople who want to further their skills and learn some different techniques.

The theme of the workshops are 'Drawing from Nature' including animals, plants, flowers, foliage and many other natural forms. Students will learn how to observe their subject and transfer that image onto paper. Look at colour and how to mix and blend the pigments, and how to manipulate the medium to achieve a finished project.

Students are asked to bring their own pastel pencils and pastel paper. There will be a limited selection of pastel pencils available for those who do not have any.

The cost of a one day workshop is £40.00 per person, at the following venues:
